Waneta was born July 15, 1922 in LaPorte, IN to Ora Mae and Arthur William Vieritz. Ten days after her birth she was adopted by Rollo and Bernice Hunsberger.
She attended school in various towns in Indiana, graduating from Pendleton High School in 1940. After graduation she was reunited with her birth parents.
Following a short job at General Motors Waneta worked in the War Department at the Pentagon as a secretary. She enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp Women Reserves March 15, 1944. She served honorably until her discharge February 14, 1946.
She met her husband Charles Ralph Ramsey in San Diego, CA where they were both stationed as marines. They married April 21, 1946.
They were blessed with four children: Charles Ralph Ramsey, Jr. born 1951, Jackson, MS; twins, Sylvia Celeste Ramsey (Harrison) and Sandra Sue Ramsey, born 1955, North Little Rock, AR; Juanita Faye Ramsey (Jevne) born 1958, North Little Rock, AR.
In 1963 the family moved to Joplin, MO. Four months later Waneta was widowed after her husband’s five year struggle with cancer. The family remained in Joplin for the next fourteen years while the children completed their schooling. Waneta moved to Kansas City, MO where she worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Upon retirement she joined her daughters Juanita and Sandra in Port Angeles, WA where she lived and worked for the next sixteen years. In 2003 she returned to Indiana to live with her daughter Sylvia and family.
Waneta passed into eternity Tuesday November 29th at 2:39 in the afternoon at age 89.
She is missed by her four children and their families including nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
